PE
Intent
At Negtheravon, we aim for every child to experience a wide range of sports and activities that will inspire them to develop lifelong, active, healthy lifestyles, promoting and nurturing both their physical and mental well-being. Through carefully planned, inclusive competition we want children to develop the values of trust in their teammates and respect for their opposition. We teach children to strive and show determination to perform to their best, and enjoy their own successes, while developing friendship and teamwork through the shared experiences of sport.
Implementation
PE at Netheravon is taught by specialist PE coaches to ensure all learners receive high-quality, active lessons. The PE curriculum has been carefully planned by Up And Under sports coaches so that skills and knowledge are progressively built upon from the foundation stage, into Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Our aim is to develop competency and increase confidence when taking part, by revisiting and building upon the skills taught, leading to high levels of enjoyment, long-term retention and participation beyond the school gates. We also run a range of after school sporting clubs across the year for both KS1 and KS2 to participate in, to extend and support class learning. In addition, across the year, Year 6 children are taught the skills to support them in delivering 'sports Leaders' activities at lunchtime.
Through our PE curriculum, children will experience/learn:
-
A broad balance of physical activities for al pupils.
-
A range of Gymnastics, Dance, Games and Athletics through dedicated lesson time.
-
A swimming programme aiming for all children to swim 25m by the time they leave Y6.
-
Outdoor and Adventurous Activities with a dedicated week in the summer for all year groups.
-
Opportunities to take part in competitions, both in and outside of the school setting.
Impact
P.E at Netheravon All Saints helps children flourish by promoting wellbeing and embedding positive attitudes towards healthy, active lifestyles. Through high quality teaching, children learn personal and social skills such as respect, teamwork, trust and determination and learn about themselves and their own skills, abilities and preferences as they become active, healthy citizens.
