Year 4 /5 Science
Back
This term in Science, Year 4/5 have been looking at forces. In particular, we have been thinking about the forces that act when deploying parachutes. The students have thought scientifically and have shown great understanding of how a parachute can slow the load down.
As part of their learning, the students had to create a parachute that was to be attached to an egg and dropped from a height. The design was up to them, but the aim was to safely get the egg to the ground and avoid any cracks. The children worked hard, thinking about how the surface area of the parachute would affect the amount of air resistance, and in turn affect the speed. We had lots of successful experiments, as well as some super evaluations afterwards.
To finish off our unit, we were lucky enough to have a parachute donated by the Netheravon Army Parachute Association. The child were stunned by the size of the canopy and excited to open the parachute up and explore.
Well done on a super term of scientific learning.
